The Perfect Day

"The Perfect Day"
This is a painting that I did in the "studio" (currently my kitchen).  Meaning I painted it from a photograph I had taken a few years ago.   After I finished it, the painting seemed to remind me of a late summer afternoon walk with someone special.  So I titled it "The Perfect Day".

The original is still available, as well as prints.  Please email for more information or if you would like to commission a painting of your own.  Thank's for looking! - Dan

Here's the photo that I used for reference material:

"George's Woodpile"
16x20 oil on canvas - $550

Last week was a week full of rain!  Since the sun has been  out a bit more this week, I have been trying to get as much painting time in as I can after work.  I painted "George's Woodpile" from my backyard looking towards my neighbor's property.  The sun was popping in and out from behind the clouds, so I had to lay in the light shapes quickly to capture the moment as I saw it.

"Under the Bridge"
This was my first attempt at painting a waterfall.  I set up my easel, started painting and then it started to rain!  After about 10 mins of trying to paint in the rain, I decided it was time to pack up.   I started packing up my paints, and noticed the sky beginning to clear!

It's been a while since I posted here.  My art has taken a bit of a turn.  Instead of doing small watercolor paintings, I began painting "en plein air" about a year ago.  I hope you will enjoy my art journey as much as I have.

In June 2012 (and several following months), I had the opportunity to paint with Vermont artist Eric Tobin.  My first day out, I had a french easel, no sunblock and not much to drink.... and no bug spray!  Well I learned my lesson quickly that day - I needed to purchase a Take-it-Easel!  Well, actually that is not what I learned that day!  I learned that I knew very little when it came to plein air painting.  You must bring bug spray, sun-block and plenty of water to drink.  Especially if you are going to be standing in the sun most of the day!  The Take it Easel came shortly after Christmas 2012.  I highly recommend this easel for any aspiring plein air artist!

I'm going to try to keep up on this blog, posting images of my paintings as I work on them.  All of the paintings are available for sale - unless otherwise marked.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions about my art, plein air painting or if you just want to talk.  I am willing to paint commissioned work.  If you have a particular view you would like a painting of, please email me and we can make it happen!
